American Film Institute has finally done the right thing and named Anchorman the greatest film of the past 100 years

Yes, yes, I know it’s not real. But it can’t hurt to dream, can it? I’m the guy that’s still holding out for Anchorman 2 (and, if The Other Guys continues to do such solid business, there’s a chance that Paramount might pony up the money, after all– so keep your fingers crossed). Having played GoldenEye 007′s multiplayer, I feel confident saying that you should purchase this game upon its release. It’s a premium gaming product that will make you and three friends very, very happy. Throwing Oddjob’s killer hat is a great thing, made even better when using a blinged-out, gilded controller like the one you see above.
Adobe elevated its “Gala” pre-release beta to final status today, releasing it as Flash Player 10.1.82.76 with support for some graphics coprocessors shipped with newer Macs. Making use of the new video acceleration API available in Mac OS X 10.6.3 or later, the update will only give improved performance to Macs with GPUs like the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, the GeForce 320M or GT 330M.
There are other limitations, such as when YouTube 480p HD videos are displayed in 864 x 480 resolution. According to Adobe engineer Tinic Uro, this forces a software fallback which means hardware acceleration is no longer available. Also, resolutions smaller than 480 x 320 pixels are not accelerated on NVIDIA GeForce 9400M based Macs, though on NVIDIA GeForce 320M and GeForce GT 330M the threshold may be a bit higher due to tradeoffs in the OS for power vs. performance optimization. As Adobe engineer Uro notes: “playing video has a fixed baseline cost in the GPU for instance which is not the case when you decode on a CPU.” The hardware decoder is limited to 2 instances at a time, so if you have more than 2 videos open at a time the third one will be software-decoded. And also, hardware acceleration will sometimes fail until Safari is restarted, which is an issue Adobe says they’re working on with Apple.

I just got back from seeing The Expendables. This was a movie I have been wanting to see for some time. Sylvester Stallone put together and all-star cast (action stars) and was tasked with providing the possibly guy movie of the decade. Stallone was one of the screenwriters and director for the anticipated film.
I want to premise this review with my expectations; which was to have an 80′s one liner throwback, lots of action, but very little dialogue. I was expecting it to just be a blow ‘em up and action packed movie from beginning to end. I was not expecting this to be a thinking movie or even one that I would talk about days on end. I was just hoping that it would be a fun filled popcorn movie.
However, this was a huge disappointment. The first 45 minutes were slow and very little action happened. When action did happen I was a bit dizzy because it was too much of a closeup and the camera was very shaky. The dialogue was very flat, but it wasn’t trying to be cheesy, it seemed like they were really pushing to be deep and have a message of self preservation.
There were some parts that I did find amusing and enjoyed a few scenes. This was all in all a very poor directed movie and once again just because there is an all-star cast does not mean it will be good. You would think I would learn from this but hope is always in the back of my mind.
The Expendables did not achieve what it was set out to do, I do not recommend this movie, if however you do have to see it wait until it hits the Redbox and save you a few bucks.
